AFCCA's Board of Directors
Election Procedures

AFCCA members have the right and responsibility to vote for  their Board of Directors.   Ballots must be filled out and returned by May 26, 2009, by mail or hand delivered no later than 5:00 pm to the Alaska Family Child Care Association, ATTN: Board Elections,  2207 E. Tudor Road, Suite 34, Anchorage, Alaska 99507.  Ballots received after 5:00 pm on May 26th will not be counted in the election results.   Any ballot not returned by May 26th shall be counted in the affirmative and that the member is in agreement with the Board Election Ballot.  Ballots must be returned to disagree with any nominee that is on the ballot.

 Each nominee shall be elected to the AFCCA Board of Directors for a term of three years.  Once elected to the Board by its members on the mail-in ballot, members present shall be nominated the new Board to positions on the board for a one year term beginning June of each year.  Thus enabling board members to fill another position during their three year term on the board. According to the Bylaws there seven board positions, President, Vice-President (Member-at-Large if no one desires the President’s position at the end of the President’s term), Secretary, Treasurer and three Members-at-Large (Four if no Vice-President). 

AFCCA will hold a Board Meeting on May 26 at 7:00pm, to certify the results of the election.  The secretary shall  ensure all ballots are valid, shall count and record all election results.  Ballots must be kept on file in case the election is contested.   Each  candidate shall be notified of the results of the election, if not present at the Board Meeting certifying the election.   All candidates are encouraged to attend.

Donna Kirby
Donna Kirby has a licensed child care home in Anchorage.  Currently sits on the board as the  President appointed to the position in January 2009 to complete the board term of previous President.  Donna was also nominated in October 2005 by the Board to fill vacancy to complete the term of the president.  She was President from October 20, 2005 to May 31, 2008 and January 27, 2009 to May 31, 2009.   Donna has volunteered an AFCCA Volunteer since 2003 writing the newsletter, and to provide training workshops.  She has held a board seat since June 1, 2005 and also chaired the Education Committee, Newsletter Editor, Website Editor, Conference Chair 2008 and has been on the Conference Committee for conferences held since 2004 to the present confernece this year.

Stephanie Kuchenoff
Stephanie Kuchenoff has a licensed group home in Wasilla.  Stephanie currently sits on the Mat-Su Valley Chapter as a Member-at-Large appointed by the board in February 2009. Stephanie has volunteered with AFCCA since 2008, sat on the 2009 Conference Committee and is the 2010’s Conference Chair.  Stephanie has also provided training workshops to members.

Jessica Parks
Jessica Parks works for RuralCap and a mother of three children in child care.  She was appointed by the Board in January to fill a vacancy.

Vanessa Plourde-Smith
Vanessa Plourde-Smith has a licensed child care home in Anchorage.   Vanessa was appointed by the board in February to fill a vacancy as a Member-at-Large.  She also sat on the 2009 Conference Committee.

Desiree Thomas
Desiree Thomas has a licensed child care home in Anchorage.   Desiree was appointed by the board in January to fill a vacancy as a Member-at-Large.  She also sat on the 2009 Conference Committee.  She has been an  AFCCA volunteer since 2007 teaching the SIDS/SBS workshops.

Tinna Thomas
Tinna Thomas was appointed by the board in October 2008 to fill a vacancy as the Treasure and took over as the Vice President in January 2009.  She also sat on the 2009 Conference Committee.
