Liability Insurance

AMC 16.55.210 Child Care Facility Operation and Management requires child care homes to carry liability insurance.  Insurance policies in the State of Alaska must not be less than $300,000 per occurrence, and $300,000 aggregated, for facilities licensed for 8 (eight) or fewer children. 

Verification of insurance policies must be sent directly from the insurance company to the licensing representative.  The Municipality of Anchroage must be listed as an additional insured on the policy.  All policies must contain an endorcement giveing the department 30 days' prior notice in the event of cancellation or non-renewal of the polcy.

Homeowner's Insurance

Homeowner's insurance protects your home and personal property in the event of damage.  Some homeowner's insurance companies will not cover your home if you are opperating a child care facility in your home.  There are some homeowner's policies have exclusions that limit the coverage of your business property.  While others do not cover any business property.  Verify your all Homeowners Insurance Endoresments (HIE) because some do not cover you once you step off the property or your professional liabilities. 

Protect yourself, your family and your home.  When searching for homeowner's insurance ask questions, inform the insurance company that you are operating a child care program in your home.

Transporation Insurance

AMC 16.55.410F Transportation requires child care home who transport children to carry transportation insurance.  Verification of insurance coverage and vehicle registration must be sent for all vehicles used to transport childrne, other than a commercial bus, shall be on file, except for the parent volunteer who drives occasionally for field trips.

Alaska law requires the owner or operator of a vehicle to have liability insurance before the vehicle is driven.  The liability insurance required must be in the amounts of not less than $50,000/$100,000 for bodily injury or death; and $25,000 for property damage.  In addition, the law requires you to carry proof of this insurance in the vehicle.  Failure to have the required insurance may result in a suspension of your driving privilegs for 90 days or more.

Vehicle registration must be carried on the vehicle at all times.  Make certain that this registration agees with the license number on the vehicle.  it is illegal to display incorrect license plates or month/year tabs on a vehicle.  Failure to display the proper license plates or the month/year tabs could result in a citation and/or impound of the vehicle.
